Help everyone.
Highlight: “My intent is to help everyone… So, part of my responsibility is to, with compassion and grace, talk to people and also listen to them so that we can create an inclusive environment… Everyone comes with pure intention, but we also are stressed. Most people are trying to do their best job, and they're stressed because they can't control every element.” – Joy Allen-Altimare
Provide greater impact.
Highlight: “I always pursued the opportunity to learn and to provide greater impact. That has been the guiding principle to my entire career. It's why I fell in love with the idea of changing behavior, influencing for positivity. What we do in this job, in the seat, is we actually help people discover their passion, discover not just a tool or a skill, but discover a way to enhance their life.” – Joy Allen-Altimare
Advocate for other women.
Highlight: “I think women have to stick together. I think it's so easy to compete in a way that's not productive for all women to rise. And I always say, for me, I'm sitting at the table, I always ask, ‘Is there space for another woman? There has to be. If you want me to sit at this table.’ Particularly, if I'm going on a board, I'm always asking, ‘Is there a place for a person of color, and is there a place for a woman?’ I think women need to do that more.” – Joy Allen-Altimare
Create space.
Highlight: “You make space, you ask for space, you create this space… Be very supportive of women in the corporate environment early on. If you're a director or you’re a manager, support, because a decade from now, when you see leaders, they'll be there with you.” – Joy Allen-Altimare
Get perspective.
Highlight: “If you only talk to people that think like you, you're only going to get an answer you would give yourself. So I think as women, particularly women in the industry, it's very important to have a cohort of women that are doing what you're doing, but then also nurture a group of people or engage with a group of people who love you and can also give you a different perspective.” – Joy Allen-Altimare
With leaders like Joy inspiring us to make space and extend grace, we’re going to see a more inclusive future. Check out our Pass the Mic content hub for even more inspiration.
