Go for it.
Highlight: “If you feel strongly about something, there's usually a reason why, and you should go for it. And I think if you believe in yourself, it's contagious. You will be the best salesperson that you can be when you believe in your product, especially when that product is you.” – Jennifer Murillo
Don’t overthink it.
Highlight: “Do your best not to overthink it… It's been my experience that the more that you leave yourself open to possibilities, the more your plan takes shape, and you end up more or less where you were hoping to end up.” – Jennifer Murillo
Set up for success.
Highlight: “Really the most important thing that you can do is set up your team for success and make sure they have what they need, that you've got the right skills and the right talent, and you're giving them the right support and opportunities, because that's when the best work is going to get done.” – Jennifer Murillo
Think about the role as if you’re playing chess.
Highlight: “A former manager was consulting with me at the time, and he told me to be thinking about the role more like if you were playing a game of chess. If I took that role, what were the squares that could open up for me later on in my career?” – Jennifer Murillo
You’re never going to know it all.
Highlight: “Really quickly, I realized, ‘Okay, you're never going to know all of this. There's no way that you can learn everything.’ It was a very broad job, and it was really one of the best career experiences I had in having that moment of making that realization that you don't have to know how to do every single job on your team.” – Jennifer Murillo
Great leaders like Jennifer know that confidence in yourself and your team is the key to being effective in business and in life. If you’re ready to up your efficacy even more, check out more Pass the Mic content.
